Design of the FMA IA 63 Pampa basic jet trainer began in 1979, and a definitive configuration was selected in 1980 with technical assistance from Dornier. Construction of three flying prototypes was initiated in March 1981 and the first flew on 6 October 1984. Basically a cantilever shoulder-wing monoplane, the fuselage incorporates a tricycle landing gear, a single turbofan engine and a pressurised cockpit with tandem seats for the pupil and instructor on zero/zero ejection seats. The Argentine air force ordered 100 Pampas and the first three aircraft were delivered in April 1988. In 1990, FMA teamed with LTV to offer a version of the IA 63, designated Pampa 2000, to compete for the Joint Services Primary Aircraft Training System (JPATS) search for a common US trainer. With a fully upgraded cockpit and modern avionics suite, the new AT-63 under production in Argentina is setting a new standard for low-cost basic through advanced trainer and light attack aircraft. On June 19, 2001, Lockheed Martin presented this new aircraft during the Paris Air Show and is now offering it to customers worldwide. The Argentine Air Force signed an agreement with Military Planes Manufacturer of Cordoba for the purchase of 12 Pampa AT-63 pilot trainers- The production is scheduled to begin in 2003. The first jet prototype conducted the inaugural flight in early 2002. The aircraft worth 6 million dollars is being offered to Colombia, Greece and Venezuela. Argentine Naval Aviation signed a contract in February 2001 with Lockheed Martin for 8 Pampa pilot trainers. It is expected that the first aircraft will be delivered in March 2003. The idea is to start up the manufacturing of the place with the intention to export it to other countries such as Uruguay, Colombia and Israel. In 2001 some negotiations were also initiated in France. The new generation AT-63 maintains the ease of maintenance and airframe stability of the original version, IA 63 Pampa (wallpaper 3). The new AT-63 features: A Honeywell TFE-731-2C turbofan engine with 3,500 pounds of thrust. A state-of-the-art avionics suite with a Digital 1553B MIL STD data bus, full systems redundancy, a glass cockpit, laser ring INS/GPS NAV, a mission computer and an integrated weapons system. Fully pressurized dual control cabin with a one-piece canopy that can be electrically fragilized in the event of ground emergency. The ejection sequence for the two zero-zero seats can be pre-selected. Four underwing plus one under fuselage weapons stations enabling air-to-air and air-to-ground light attack capability. The first upgraded prototype is flew at the end of this 2001, and serial production was scheduled to begin in late 2002. Over half of the AT-63’s components are manufactured in the United States, and the aircraft is fully supported by Lockheed Martin Aircraft & Logistics Centers. While the Argentine Air Force is the first customer for the new AT-63, other countries have expressed an interest, and the Argentine government is supportive of international sales of the aircraft. In addition to Latin America, export potential for the AT-63 exists in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. IA 63 Pampa (wallpaper 3). IA 63 Pampa aircraft images wallpaper gallery 3. The IA-63 Pampa is a single-engine, high-wing advance pilot trainer. Nineteen aircraft were orginally built during the 1980s by the Fabrica Militar de Aviones, the Argentine military depot that was privatized by Lockheed Martin in 1995. The Pampa is an extremely capable and economical trainer aircraft that was a competitor for the US Joint Primary Training System (JPATS) program. The aircraft continues to play a major part in the pilot training of the Argentine Air Force. In September 1999 Lockheed Martin Aircraft Argentina, S.A., a division of Lockheed Martin Aircraft & Logistics Centers, delivered a new IA-63 Pampa jet trainer to the Argentine Air Force, the first built since the late 1980s. The new generation IA-63 PAMPA maintains the ease of maintenance and stable flight characteristics of the original IA-63 version, produced in the late 1980s, while adding advanced avionics and an improved power plant. The new IA-63 PAMPA uses a Honeywell TFE-731-2C turbofan engine with 3,500 pounds of thrust. The new engine features a new digital DEC computer and improved mean time between failures. This family of engines has more than 8,000 in service with more than three million flight hours. The aircraft also has a digital cockpit with a heads-up display in the forward cockpit. The state-of-the-art avionics suite includes a 1553B data bus, full systems redundancy, glass crew stations, laser ring INS/GPS NAV, a new mission computer and an integrated weapons system. This system is being designed and furnished by Elbit Systems, Ltd., Israel. Fully pressurized dual control cockpits with a one-piece canopy can be electrically fragilized in the event of ground emergency. The ejection sequence for the two zero-zero seats can be pre-selected. The light attack features of the aircraft include five weapons stations, enabling air-to-air and air-to-ground capability with a maximum payload of 1900 kilograms. Down-time for the in-service IA-63 PAMPA fleet has consistently remained below design expectations. The IA-63 PAMPA requires only 2.27 DMMH/FH while the total workload between major scheduled inspections is 3.80 DMMH/FH. IA 63 Pampa (wallpaper 2)

The FMA IA 63 Pampa is an advanced trainer aircraft with combat capability, produced in Argentina by Fabrica Militar de Aviones (FMA) with assistance from Dornier of Germany. Preliminary design studies for a replacement for the Morane-Saulnier MS-760 of the Argentine Air Force started at the Fábrica Militar de Aviones (FMA) in 1978, with these studies resulting in selection of a proposal powered by a single Garrett TFE731 turbofan with high, unswept wings. At the same time the FMA signed a partnership agreement with Dornier to develop the new aircraft. Although influenced by the Dassault/Dornier Alpha Jet design, the Pampa differs in being a smaller aircraft, it is also single-engined and has straight supercritical wings rather than the swept ones of the Alpha Jet. It is constructed mainly of aluminium alloy, with carbon-fibre used for components such as the air intakes. IA 63 Pampa (wallpaper 1). IA 63 Pampa aircraft images wallpaper gallery 1. IA 63 Pampa airplane pictures and images collection 1. The crew of two sit in Tandem under a single piece clamshell canopy. The avionics systems are also simpler than the Franco-German aircraft, which has an important secondary combat role. The Pampa prototype first flew on 6 October 1984. Production of the initial series has been delayed and hampered by the state of the Argentinian economy, and as a result only 18 production aircraft have been built in the first batch (1988–90) and 6 in the second batch (2006–07) for the Argentine Air Force. First deliveries occurred in April 1988. They are in service – all modernized – with the IV Brigada Aérea (IV Air Brigade) at Mendoza in the advanced training role of Argentine pilots (18 aircraft active). In the 1990s, LTV/Vought selected the IA 63 as the basis for the Pampa 2000, which Vought entered into the Joint Primary Aircraft Training System competition for the United States Air Force. The Pampa 2000 lost to the Beechcraft/Raytheon entry which became the T-6 Texan II. With the acquisition of FMA by Lockheed Martin the Pampa went through a midlife upgrade with new engine and a more advanced avionics package compatible with the A-4AR and weapon system. This new project is called IA-63 PAMPA Pampa (for attack trainer) and is marketed by Lockheed Martin. The only client is the Argentine Air Force. IA 63 Pampa (wallpaper 1).
